The Digital Escape and the Reality We Avoid

I am not sure if everyone feels it, but I struggle living in two parallel worlds these days.

When we exist in the digital world, life seems so easy. Food delivery services will bring you whatever you are craving for and E commerce suppliers will make things coming to your house very easy. You can have thousands of connections in this ideal existence in the digital world. The world is at your command with the touch of a button.

Whereas in the physical world, there is this thing called Reality! You might just be dealing with one problem after the other; simple things such as how do I pay this bill? How do I get my car fixed? How to make sure I am good at my job? Do I have friends who I can trust?

Don’t we all wish that these things in the physical world should be simpler and running smoother? Sometimes I wonder if the reason they are not is because they are not part of the digital universe, which gets so much attention.

The biggest consequence of living in the digital world perhaps, is that people sometimes forget the physical world needs care and investment of time, much more than a digital presence does.

But in this modern life people find it is just easier to be online. You can create this curated experience. You can present this perfect appearance. Your social media pages reflect your best moments. You can have this digital life that is not really your life.

Here is the thing though; It is difficult to find meaning in digital life because it is too easy and too virtual! If you are able to lay back all day, watch a screen slouching on your sofa and have your lattes delivered to you, it’s tough to find meaning in that lifestyle because nothing seems challenging.

The best parts of life often come through the hardest struggles, and that is where people find real meaning. Study the great philosophers, science, medicine, sports or just building relationships. Anything that has contributed to the well being of this planet, it is always after the struggle and the path found via sacrifice of comfort.

So which world would you rather be in? Worth thinking about 🤔
